Police arrests four in connection with human trafficking operation

Limassol police arrested two women and two men in connection with human trafficking for the purpose of prostitution on Wednesday.

The arrests took place during a joint operation by Limassol police and the office for combatting human trafficking, in 14 apartments of the city.

In one of the raids, authorities arrested a 52 year old man from Greece and a 36 year old woman from Moldova for allegedly leading women to prostitution.

Police confiscated €41,000 worth of cash money, 1,320 condoms, four grammes of cannabis and mobile phones.

Later, police arrested a 60 year old man from Greece on the same charges and a 31 year old woman from Belarus for illegally residing in Cyprus.

Four women who are considered to be potential victims of trafficking were taken to police headquarters for further investigations and were later transferred to a state refuge.

The four suspects will appear in Limassol Dictrict court on Thursday.
